Effect

The performer displays five ESP cards, each depicting a different symbol.  After pattering about ESP, the performer drops each card onto a handkerchief, which he holds draped over his open left palm. The performer then covers the cards with the ends of the handkerchief, by folding them up onto his palm. Reaching into the handkerchief, the performer mixes the cards around, removes one, showing only the back of this card to the spectator. This card the performer places into his pocket. The performer then asks the spectator to use only his perception and call out the symbol card he believes the performer removed. The performer then reaches into the handkerchief, removes the four remaining cards, shows that they are all different, and that the missing card is the one the spectator called. The performer then reaches into his pocket, and removes the card handing it to the spectator for verification.

As you guess, this is a variation of “The Princess Card Trick.” But the strong point to be noted here is, performer  verifies that the named ESP symbol is actually missing from the remaining cards and later it is shown that removed card is the same ESP symbol card as named by the spectator.
